This is a query from Sheldon Ross.
A dance class consists of (*22*) students, 10 girls and 12 males. If 5 men and 5 girls are to be selected and then paired off, how many effects are conceivable?
So my reasoning is that this :
I make a choice Five women from a pool of 10 in 10C2 ways. I make a choice 5 men from a pool of 12 in 12C2 tactics. So overall number of ways of choosing in 10C2 x 12C2. Now I need to arrange them in Five pairs. This is where I've a other answer. The resolution says that there are 5! tactics to arrange them in pairs.
But I cant seem to understand why? My reasoning is that for first pair place I would like to choose 1 man from Five and 1 girl from 5. So for the primary position I have 5 x 5 alternatives (Five for guy and 5 for lady). Similarly for the second one place I've Four x 4 choices and so forth. Hence the total tactics are 5! x 5!
So I calculate the whole techniques as 10C2 * 12C2 * 5! * 5!. Can any individual level the flaw in my reasoning for arranging the selected women and men in pairs.
Thanks in advance
