From Wowpedia

Half-orc is a term used to describe the offspring of an orc or half-orc father or mother and a parent of another species. Since the start of the First War, orcs have interbred with plenty of species: most commonly people, however half-ogres and half-draenei aren't exceptional.[1][quotation needed]  It maximum often refers to a half orc/human, but can also be used to discuss with a half-orc half-ogre, or half-orc half-draenei.

Background

Orcs and people can interbreed, and in this union create half-orcs. Humans and orcs had been enemies for many years and half-orcs constitute something both races want to not consider. The half-orcs' genesis is typically the results of rape, and their look — too bestial to be human and too blank to be orc — reminds the father or mother races of the rift between them and the horrible deeds each has carried out on the other. Thus, maximum people and orcs ignore half-orcs. Other races are little higher, because the human-orc warfare is only one aspect of the Alliance-Horde tensions upon which no one likes to live. Conversely, some see half-orcs as symbols of cohesion. Not all half-orcs are born to abused or victimized folks; some are the children of clandestine love.[2][3] Perhaps half-orcs constitute what might be achieved if the races set aside their differences and lived in peace. After all, if humans and orcs, with their history of hatred and bloodshed and wildly different origins, can produce viable offspring, in all probability the races are not as other as they think.

Half-orcs face combined reactions. Even extra so than half-elves, half-orcs are the objectives of rage and derision led to by way of pressure. Azeroth is a violent position and tensions thrum like taut wires. The Third War lives in contemporary memory, and most people and orcs misplaced family members by the hands of the other aspect. Half-orcs to find little welcome, though the placement is healthier within the larger, more enlightened settlements.

Unlike half-elves, preferring to wander or mix in to steer clear of prejudice, half-orcs are vocal, daring, and foolishly courageous. A product in their father or mother races' pride, braveness, and ferocity, half-orcs refuse to accept bias lightly. They call for attention. Half-orcs decide to audacious dares and acts of suicidal bravery to prove their price to their dad or mum races. Occasionally they be successful.[4]

Perspective

Half-orcs, because of their mixed-breed nature, have an intruder's point of view on occasions; it sort of feels not going that they're going to see things from the inside any time soon. Their unfortunate status as human-orc crossbreeds leaves them actually belonging to neither race, and forces them to search out their own puts in (usually) the Horde or (extra hardly ever) the Alliance.[5]

Culture

Languages A half-orc in "Horde Races" by way of Chris Metzen. (RPG)

Half-orcs in most cases speak Common or Orcish. Half-orcs learn many languages, like their human folks.[6]

Names

Half-orcs take the naming practices of the race during which they were raised. Half-orcs raised in human lands regularly take orc first names to display their heritage and vice versa.[6]

Male Names: Galmak, Rogar, Dargal, Heiros Female Names: Gauna, Bodi, Imarelle, Seera Family Names: Dimmul, Blackaxe, Fierceblade, Greatarm

Appearance

"Half-orcs are a bit taller and heavier than humans, standing around 6-1/2 feet in height and weighing 200 to 250 pounds. Males are noticeably taller and heavier than females. Half-orc skin ranges from light green to grayish brown; half-orc hair is coarse like an orc's and ranges from brown to black in color. The orc lineage is unmistakable, but half-orc features are not as pronounced as those of the orc parent. A half-orc's ears are not quite as large, the nose not as piggish, and the tusks just far less. Both humans and orcs view half-orcs as physically ugly, a view which infects some half-orcs with self-loathing. Half-orcs live longer than their orc parents, with life spans equivalent to a human's."[6]

It seems orc characteristics are in most cases dominant with regards to interracial breeds as evidenced via Mok'nathal, Half-draenei, and Orc/Human hybrids.

Faith

Since many half-orcs belong to the Horde, they study the shamananistic practices in their orc forebears. They in finding the spirits extra accepting then any race in society or within the physical aircraft for that subject. Half-orcs additionally curious concerning the Holy Light, and the ones raised among people may observe this philosophy.[6]

Region

If raised by humans, a half-orc perhaps makes Theramore or Stormwind his home. If raised through orcs, he most certainly comes from the city of Orgrimmar in Durotar.

Lands of Conflict mentions that about 3% of the inhabitants of Hillsbrad Foothills is half-orc (human/orc). This signifies that there are more or less 450 half-orcs in the space.[7]

Half-orcs of ogre descent, the mok'nathal reside within the Mok'Nathal Village in Outland.

The term half-orc is most often used to describe the union between a human and an orc, however, there are other half-orc hybrids:

The Mok'Nathal are generally known as one of those half-ogres, reasonably than half-orcs, due to extra dominant ogre traits. The famous Rexxar is one well known half-ogre. Sometimes the longer term "half-orc half-ogre" or "half orc/ogre" is used to describe the race, half-ogre being the quick shape. In Beyond the Dark Portal, Rexxar is just known as a "half-orc" all through a lot of the e book.

A hybrid of an orc and a draenei may also be called a "half-draenei",[1] a "half-orc half-draenei", or an "orc-draenei half-breed". Brann believes that they display draenei bodily characteristics.[8] Half-draenei is used as the quick form. Garona has been known as simply "half-orc" in numerous sources as neatly.

It appears that what half a character is known as at any given time depends upon which heritage is being considering, as is the case of Rexxar and Garona being referred to as "half-orcs" every now and then.

Inspiration

Traditionally, in vintage delusion settings such as the works of Tolkien and later in D&D, a half-orc by way of definition method an offspring that includes an orc and a human guardian.[9][10]

For example, in Tolkien's works, half-orcs have been the creations of Saruman — between males and orcs:

"But these creatures of Isengard, these half-orcs and goblin-men that the foul craft of Saruman has bred, they will not quail at the sun...'"

-Two Towers III 7, Helm's Deep.

This traditional view was used when Warcraft: Orcs & Humans used to be launched, Garona declaring in her personal words that she was once the product of a human and an orc union. It was once later discussed that each people & orcs idea that she was once half-human and half-orc[citation wanted] [11] or at least near-human. It has been confirmed that she is half-orc, half-draenei.[12]
